National Bourbon Week is Bardstown’s June celebration, a run of tastings, distillery-hosted dinners, limited releases, master-distiller panels and blending classes that opens on National Bourbon Day, June 14. The third edition ran June 14-21, 2026, with the free Bourbon City Street Concert filling North Third Street on the Saturday. Events are ticketed one by one, so it’s a cheaper, more relaxed way to see the Bourbon Capital than September’s sold-out festival. The 2027 dates will be posted on the official site.
What National Bourbon Week is
The week started in 2024, making it one of the town’s newer traditions. It was built by Bardstown’s distilleries, downtown merchants and hospitality businesses together with the Bourbon Capital Alliance and Bardstown-Nelson County Tourism, with Visit Bardstown as presenting sponsor, according to the official site. The idea is simple: take the one day already on the national calendar, June 14, and turn it into a week in the one town that calls itself the Bourbon Capital of the World.
It has grown fast. The 2025 edition had 38 events plus special bottle releases and raised money for local causes, per the Kentucky Bourbon Trail’s announcement. The Bourbon Capital Alliance says the 2026 week drew visitors from 37 states.
What happens during the week
The lineup changes every year, but the official site describes the same core ingredients:
- Tastings, including bottles and pours you won’t find the rest of the year.
- Distillery-hosted dinners and bourbon pairing dinners.
- Limited-edition releases, often sold only that week.
- Panels with master distillers.
- Blending classes, where you build your own bourbon from component whiskeys.
- Downtown Main Street festivities with live music.
Partner distilleries have included Maker’s Mark, Beam, Lux Row, Preservation, Old SteelHouse, Limestone Branch, Barton, Heaven Hill, Log Still and Potter Jane. Barton’s presence is worth noticing: the distillery hasn’t run public tours since 2022, so special events are among the rare chances to connect with it.
National Bourbon Day at Heaven Hill
The week opens on National Bourbon Day. In 2026, Heaven Hill hosted an Elijah Craig National Bourbon Day Celebration at the Heaven Hill Bourbon Experience. Expect the big distilleries to mark June 14 with something special each year.
The Bourbon City Street Concert
The free highlight is the Bourbon City Street Concert, which reached its 23rd year in 2026 (it’s older than the week itself). It takes over the first two blocks of North Third Street downtown from 6 to 11 p.m., with live music, bourbon sampling for adults 21 and up and a kids’ zone with bounce houses. Past acts include American Idol winner Noah Thompson. Bring a chair, arrive early for a good spot, and plan to walk back to your room.

Planning your trip
Tickets
Watch nationalbourbonweek.com and the Visit Bardstown event page in spring, when the schedule is announced. Popular dinners and releases can sell out, so buy those first and fill in around them. Regular distillery tours still run during the week and book up too; our guide on booking distillery tours explains how far ahead to reserve.
Where to stay
June isn’t September, but a weekend during National Bourbon Week is busy. Book as soon as you know your dates. Downtown B&Bs and inns let you walk to the street concert and the downtown events; the bypass hotels are cheaper but need a car or driver. Compare options in where to stay in Bardstown.
Weather
Mid-June in Bardstown is warm and can be humid: June’s normal high is about 84°F, with close to 5 inches of rain across the month. Dress for heat at outdoor events, carry water, and pack a light layer for air-conditioned tasting rooms and cool rickhouses. Summer heat and bourbon don’t mix well, so alternate every pour with water.
Getting around
Many events are at distilleries on the edge of town or out in the county. Arrange a driver for any evening dinner; our tours and transportation guide lists the options. Downtown, the Bourbon Capital District lets you carry a drink between participating bars from noon to 9 p.m.
A sample National Bourbon Week weekend
Most visitors can’t take the whole week, so aim for the weekend that includes the street concert. A plan that balances ticketed events with time to breathe:
- Friday afternoon: arrive, check in downtown and walk to the free Oscar Getz Museum of Bourbon History in Spalding Hall to get your bearings. Evening: a ticketed distillery dinner, with a driver booked both ways.
- Saturday morning: one regular distillery tour, booked well ahead. Lunch at a distillery kitchen. Afternoon: a blending class or master-distiller panel. Evening: the Bourbon City Street Concert on North Third Street, on foot.
- Sunday: a slow brunch downtown, a stop at a gift shop for any week-only release you tasted, then home or on to a Stephen Foster Story performance.
Two events a day is plenty. Tasting pours at panels, dinners and tours add up, and June heat makes them feel stronger.
Tips for getting the most out of the week
- Check nationalbourbonweek.com and your favorite distilleries’ own sites through the spring, as events and releases are added.
- Buy dinner tickets for different nights rather than stacking two on one evening.
- Bring a refillable water bottle and a folding chair for the street concert.
- Keep your purchased bottles sealed in the car or your room, not at an outdoor event.
- If you’re choosing between June and September for a first visit, June is the easier trip to book.
Make a week of it
June is one of the best months in Bardstown beyond bourbon. The Stephen Foster Story outdoor musical opens its season in mid-June at the amphitheater in My Old Kentucky Home State Park (adult tickets were $28 plus a $4 fee in 2026, per the box office), and free Friday-night concerts run in the city park. Our summer in Bardstown guide covers the season, and the events calendar has the month-by-month view.
For a ready-made plan, adapt the two-day bourbon itinerary and slot in one National Bourbon Week dinner each night.
